Why Bitcoin

Bitcoin is the default checkout for self-custody buyers

Bitcoin is the path of least resistance when you're settling from a self-custody wallet. Block time is a predictable 10 minutes, transaction fees are tight and well-understood, and the wallet ecosystem is universal — every hardware wallet, every mobile app, every exchange withdrawal supports it out of the box. You don't need a special-purpose stablecoin position or an L2 setup.

The trade-off is on-chain traceability. Every BTC transaction is public and permanently linkable. If the wallet you're paying from has any prior history that doxxes you — even an exchange withdrawal with KYC tied to it — that linkage propagates to this transaction. For most buyers this is fine; for privacy-sensitive buyers it's a reason to pick Monero instead.

We accept BTC mainnet. OxaPay generates a unique invoice address per order. Confirmation requires 1 block (~10 minutes typical). Once confirmed, our admin gets a Telegram ping and we open the Sedo purchase within 1–2 business hours.

Trade-offs at a glance

  • Best for

Self-custody wallet holders, BTC-denominated treasuries, founders deploying long-term Bitcoin capital into productive assets.

  • Settlement time

~10 minutes for 1 confirmation. Domain typically lands in your registrar 6–24 hours after that.

  • Privacy posture

Public ledger. Acceptable for most buyers; pick Monero for full unlinkability between wallets.

  • Fees

Mainnet network fees apply. Currently $1–$10 per tx depending on mempool. We don't add a payment-processing surcharge.

FAQ

Bitcoin-specific questions

  • 01How many Bitcoin confirmations do you require?

1 confirmation. OxaPay reports the invoice as paid the moment the transaction is included in a block (~10 minutes typical). We start the Sedo acquisition immediately after.

  • 02Can I pay with Lightning Network?

Not currently. Premium .com sales are high-ticket ($500+) and Lightning's channel-capacity model is not well-suited to large one-shot payments. We accept BTC mainnet only. Email us if you have a specific Lightning use case.

  • 03What happens if BTC price moves between checkout and confirmation?

The invoice is locked in BTC for 15 minutes from generation. If the price moves significantly while you're funding, OxaPay re-prices the invoice if you exceed the 15-minute window. Pay promptly to avoid the re-price; or use USDT to remove BTC volatility from the loop entirely.

  • 04Is the Bitcoin payment KYC'd?

Not on our side. We never ask for your name, ID or address. OxaPay may apply velocity-based checks above certain volumes — that's between you and them. Below their threshold, the loop is anonymous from our perspective.
